It's something like Billy couldn't even imagine in his wildest dreams, and he watches the place knit itself back together as though nothing had ever happened. He's so caught up in watching that if he had normal reflexes he surely would have missed Tommy falling, but as it is he has plenty of time to move into position to catch him, expression worried and grateful.
