Age: Approximately 22

(original) world & history: N/A
(CRAU) background:
• Tommy spent a few years living in The Sphere, brought there by an AI trying to understand people so it could restore people there. While in this place he was gifted by it a small pet, the sloth Speedy. Caring so regularly for the life of another that is fully dependent upon him. It led to a growth in his ability to show affection and a tenderness toward others. • While there he came to be familiar with a version of Wanda Maximoff from another world. He was quickly accepted as her son, even she wasn't actually the right Wanda. Along with the presence of an Ultron of another world who chose to be interested in his development, Tommy came to accept freely given love, affection, and concern. Given in his history he was used to being ignored or even shut out. Instead he found people who consistently accepted him and wanted to keep a place for him, even if he made mistakes. This helped Tommy start to open up more to the idea that he might not be abandoned or let down, not intentionally. • A few times Tommy made connections with people he came to care about and trust, only to have them taken away from him. Often after this he would get mad at the Sphere itself or circumstances and shut down for a while. After a few instances of this he began to realize that sometimes when people leave it's not because they didn't want to be there for you, but because they no longer could. It led to a more level handling of these situations. • Though he had several flings, Tommy never tried to settle for a relationship, too afraid of losing it. Through the actions of others he was put into a date auction and through it learned that one of his close friends actually cared for him romantically. Together they started developing a relationship and teaching Tommy to be comfortable with the sort of vulnerability that relationships require. There was a minor hiccup over the fact that for a while Tommy went home and when he returned he was in a relationship back there. He still made a decision not to leave Gar or part from the love they were finding themselves to have. Learning that he could depend on someone with his greatest secrets might help him open up again, as he was never judged for the things he had been through.
Abilities:
• Superhuman Speed: Normally capable of running in excess of Mach 4, but full upper limits hasn't been tested. As part of his mutation Tommy's body is also suited to handling these speeds, with superhuman agility, reflexes, stamina, and durability. This last one is almost exclusively durability in the face of the forces he places his body under and the friction it produces, so stronger legs and arms to handle how hard he hits the ground if he falls at top speeds. This power, though, is contingent on having sufficient energy. Tommy needs more food than most people to maintain this sort of ability, and so must carefully manage use of this ability at this time.
• Superhuman Strength: As an additional part of his mutation, Tommy can easily lift 800 pounds with his arms, and over a ton with his legs.
• Accelerated Perception: To keep up with the physical aspects of his body, Tommy's brain also runs faster. This results in him able to perceive, process, and even think at a higher subjective rate than humans. At higher speeds five minutes can feel like weeks to him.
• Molecular Acceleration: Tommy can vibrate himself enough to, with care, move through solid objects. In addtion, he used to be able to generate vibrations from his hands outwards, vibrating molecules in his target enough to cause explosions. Now his powers here seem to be highly dampened, meaning Tommy can maybe make things crack a little, but explosions? Not happening.
Personality:
Strengths:
• Independent - Tommy’s been having to more or less manage for himself since he was young, in part because his parents weren’t exactly glad for a child like him. Neglect can make for an independent child, which had led to Tommy having multiple brushes with the law. After being broken out from ‘Super Juvie’ by his future teammates on the Young Avengers this only continued, with Tommy mostly living on his own since he was sixteen. Sure, his soul-brother's parents had him live there for a while, but he couldn't take it, too much structure and concern overwhelming him. While he understands some things are better handled as a team, or with a support structure, relying on others is hard for him, especially when he can do for himself.
• Decisive - Part of the advantages of being a speedster is that it’s easy to think through a large number of problems in very little time. Or at least very little time for other people. This allows Tommy to seem decisive. The hilarious thing is that while Tommy could think through his actions quickly, he doesn’t spend a lot of time at it, instead choosing to go with quick and easy solutions based on gut instinct. But he does make choices, and when he makes one, he sticks to it. It isn't like him to second-guess, unless it's something that involves emotions. Otherwise? He's fight before flight and he doesn't hestitate.
• Protective - When it comes down to it, Tommy is protective of the people around him. It starts with the people he cares about, like his 'siblings' and his team. From there it tends to expand to people he’s friends with loosely, to the point where he once ran a girl he’d known for five minutes a few thousand miles away from danger. But it goes further, to Tommy wanting to protect everyone and anyone around him. This is best seen of course in his work as a superhero. Even when everyone else on the Young Avengers pulls out he keeps going, needing to act so he can help others, because having the power to do that matters to him.
Weaknesses:
• Attention Span - The other half of the issue with being a speedster, or at least one that can experience the world far faster than the vast majority of people is that it’s hard for him to stay focused for extended periods. Tommy specifically refers to normal people as ‘snails’ and part of the issue is that people can’t operate at his speed. In fact, the vast majority of the world and other things can’t process at his level so boredom is a natural side effect and his attention darts around so he can try and keep his brain occupied. If he isn't really focused his brain speeds up and people may think that he's lost attention, but the fact is that for him it's been at least two hours and he has to keep moving or he's going to die from boredom. The inverse is also true. He can hyper focus on things that actually catch his attention, given they're rare, and he is happy to spend what he sees as weeks on one thing when it agrees with him, though for others that could be a few minutes.
• Trust Issues - This goes hand in hand with the fact that Tommy’s biological parents weren’t there for him and didn’t fight for him before he was sent away to be experimented on not to mention what they DID do which was pretty bad. They didn’t even take him back when he got out. Add in the potential role-models Tony Stark and Steve Rogers trying to just about jail his brother, Cyclops wanting to have his soul-mother Wanda Maximoff locked away with no trial, and Wolverine trying to kill both Wanda and Tommy’s twin? Well, trust isn’t something Tommy plays easily with. The only people he does trust are his teammates, and even that is pretty circumstantial. He won't open up enough to admit things easily, because vulnerability requires trust, and he doesn't know how to give that to a world that has let him down more times than not.
